Client Appreciation Nights at the Ballpark

During the spring and summer months we like to take time out to show appreciation to our clients by inviting them to join us at a Rockies game in a private suite.  At each of the four games in 2008, everyone really enjoyed themselves and loved the good food and the company, as well as the excellent view of the game.

We hosted a special night for Lockheed Martin clients because we have so many clients from that one firm. We also hosted one night specifically for clients who have given us referrals. We appreciate each and every one of our clients, and we want to thank you for your business and for helping us grow.

More Than 60 Attend Identity Theft Workshop

On Saturday, January 26, 2008, more than sixty Hallmark clients and guests attended a special workshop on preventing identity theft, conducted by Secret Service Agent, Kai Munshi. Identity theft has become a global problem, and here in this country, Colorado is one of the hardest hit states. Everyone who attended the workshop at Cherry Hills Country Club said the information was invaluable, and the 90-minute event was obviously well worth their time. One couple drove all the way from Pueblo just for the workshop, while others came from as far away as Boulder.

One of the many recommendations Kai shared with everyone during the workshop was to check your credit report with each of the three credit reporting agencies (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax) at least once each year. Better yet, as recommended by Hallmark client Steve Schomay, why not make it a point to rotate checking each of the three credit reports every four months.

For those of you who were not able to join us at this important workshop, Kai Munshi was kind enough to leave us an extra supply of the Secret Service Identity Theft handbook he distributed at the workshop. If you would like to receive a copy, call Anita at 303-756-8900.

Client Fishing Trips a Huge Success!

If you consider lots of big fish, fabulous shore lunches, great weather, and loads of fun essential to having a successful fishing trip, the annual client fishing trips in June/July to Bolton Lake are huge! We fly from Denver to Winnipeg and then on to Bolton Lake the next morning.  Upon arriving, we are fed a big breakfast at the lodge, then we head to the boats, and by 9:30am we are already catching fish – and lots of them!

On July 22, 2006, eight fishermen gathered in Winnipeg, Canada, to begin the inaugural Hallmark Consulting Group client fishing trip to Bolton Lake Lodge in Northern Manitoba. The group was led by Hallmark's President, Don Hartmann, who had fished at Bolton Lake on two previous occasions. Over the next four days, each of the Hallmark guests managed to catch the biggest fish of their lifetime.  The most impressive catch of the trip was made by Clint Wood, who—having never caught a fish before—landed a 42.5-inch Northern Pike. Anything over 41 inches qualifies as a Trophy fish in Northern Manitoba, which resulted in Clint qualifying as a Master Angler.

On the first day of the 2007 fishing expedition, Don caught three large Northern Pike, ("gators" according to our guide, Tom), including a 41-inch trophy (pictured below, with Tom). We not only catch a lot of fish, we also enjoy a lot of laughs, especially with Fred Pasternack. It seems Fred is a big eater, and it did not take him long to figure out who his best friends were at Bolton Lake—the guides who did all the cooking for the shore lunches. (That is Fred in the red bandana with our guides, Tom, Troy, Churchill, Winston, and John). These guys are so good at cooking Walleye that we even discussed bringing them to Denver to open a restaurant called "Fred's Shore Lunch," featuring Winston's fried potatoes, Troy's baked Mexican Walleye, Tom's Parmesan garlic stir-fried Walleye, as well as Churchill's shore-fried onion rings; trust me, this is good stuff!

In 2008, there were eleven in the Hallmark group, and we landed more than 1400 fish, including an astounding 15 trophy fish. Larry Thiel and his son, Skip, caught 8 of the trophies. Larry Haider caught the biggest trophy, a 44-inch Northern Pike.

If you would like to join us in creating wonderful memories of great fishing, eating awesome shore lunches, laughing a lot, and seeing some beautiful Canadian wildlife, we reserve 16 spaces each year; we travel in June or July, and we would love to have you. Please call Katherine or Anita at 303-756-8900 to get your name on the list.

Christmas in New York

Our first client "Christmas in New York" trip was a smashing success! The weather was perfect, the restaurants were outstanding, and the two shows were ... well, there are not enough superlatives to adequately describe them!

When we landed in New York on Friday, December 1, the weather was grim—raining and dark. By the time we finished dinner at Nougatine at Jean Georges, the moon was out and it was in the 50s. We had a wonderful private (limo) van take us to Radio City Music Hall where the Rockettes were amazing, as usual, and the "Nativity" presentation was truly an emotional experience. With live animals, including three camels bringing in the Three Kings, and equally amazing music, it was something none of us will likely ever forget. The walk back to the hotel took us right past Rockefeller Center, where we all posed for pictures in front of the nation's largest Christmas tree.

Saturday was a day for sightseeing and shopping, including Central Park, Bloomingdales, and Saks Fifth Avenue and eating genuine NY pastrami on rye sandwiches at Junior's Deli. Saturday evening featured another wonderful dinner at Vice Versa, and then on to "The Lion King." After the show, we had a stroll in Times Square and a pleasant walk back to our hotel.

Sunday began with brunch at Schiller's in lower Manhattan and then on to Wall Street and Ground Zero—a somber experience to say the least. The weekend was capped off with a ride on the ferry to Staten Island. The view of the Statue of Liberty was wonderful, as was the view of Manhattan from out in the harbor, and the weather was so beautiful we were able to stand outside on the ferry most of the way.

Our second Christmas in New York weekend included dinner at Orso, one of the theater district’s finest Italian restaurants, after which we saw the hit Broadway show "Mama Mia." Sunday brunch at Tavern on the Green in Central Park rounded off another fabulous Christmas in New York weekend.
